What is a synod? A synod is a group of people who walk together with a common faith for a common goal.
St. James is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (or WELS, for short). The WELS is made up of congregations all over America and all over the world who all teach and believe the same exact thing, the truth of God's Word. We join together as a synod to accomplish what none of us could accomplish alone. Our Synod runs two preparatory high schools for those who are considering serving the Lord in the full-time pastoral or teaching ministry, a worker training college in New Ulm, Minnesota, and a seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin. Our Synod funds overseas missionaries and home missionaries. Our Synod works to provide all its congregations with excellent resources for teaching and preaching and sharing God's Word.
